Demand for Computer Science Specialists to Remain Strong

Computer Information Science SpecialistDemand for workers in computer information science-related fields is expected to increase in the years ahead. Even with the American economy expected to remain somewhat sluggish for the foreseeable future, people with training and experience in computer-related specialties are more likely than not to find their prospects healthier than workers as a whole.

O*Net Online, the Web-based employment resource sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics, lists 15 job categories with a 60 percent or higher relevance to the term “computer information science.” Of those 15 job categories, 10 are expected to expand at rates that are “faster” or “much faster” than average. Only two career categories — computer programmers and computer operators — are expected to experience any decline during this 10-year period.
