Are You a Candidate for Online Education?

e-learning.JPGAre you someone who can benefit from online education? Going online to study for an associate degree, bachelor’s degree or even a master’s degree is an increasingly popular option for many Americans. Online colleges offer a higher degree of flexibility than most traditional “ground schools,” and online degrees from well-known, accredited institutions carry as much weight as those from their brick-and-mortar counterparts.

Today, online universities are drawing students from all walks of life. Do you fit into any of these groups now earning their degrees from online colleges?

Working Adults. Many working adults need degrees to qualify for promotions or otherwise advance their careers. But going to college while holding down a full-time job can be too stressful, if not completely impractical, for many people. If you already have a job and want an associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree to advance your career or to get into an entirely new career field, online education can be just the solution you need.

Young Parents. Many young parents want a college degree so they can look for a good-paying job once their kids are old enough to go to school, or these parents want to increase their household income here and now. Like working adults, young parents have daytime responsibilities that make going to a traditional college — even a community college — prohibitively difficult. Online colleges allow them to study during evenings, on weekends, or whenever they can find free time.

Military Personnel. Active members of our armed forces can benefit from a college degree as a way to more smoothly transition to civilian life, or as a way to qualify for promotions within the military. Because they might not have easy access to traditional colleges, or because they are stationed overseas, more and more servicemen and woman are now turning to online colleges and universities for their advanced education. The U.S. government actively encourages online education by offering numerous programs that provide scholarships and payment options for military personnel who wish to pursue college degrees. Additional financial aid is available for those who qualify.

Military Spouses. Wives and husbands of active U.S. service personnel often face the same challenges as their spouses. They must often move from base to base and may even find themselves overseas for extended periods of time. This can make going to a traditional college impractical — an online education becomes an attractive alternative.
