The Pros and Cons of Studying in a Coffee Shop

As an online college student, you know how important it is to get out of the house once in a while to study.

In fact, sometimes getting out of the house is the only way to study — especially if you have children at home.

But where can you study at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. at night?

Well, many students know the value of studying at a local coffee shop – like Starbucks or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

But is it an ideal study spot for you?

Before you decide to study in your local shop, consider these pros and cons:

The benefits of studying in a coffee shop:

  • constant access to coffee and other caffeine-filled beverages
  • many people are usually around which also helps keep you awake
  • it’s easy to go outside and catch some fresh air
  • some shops are open really late – which means you can study late
  • a hot latte

The problems of studying in a coffee shop:

  • sometimes the music is too loud
  • too many people around can be distracting
  • people sitting at a table close to you might be talking too loud
  • the tables are usually small, which makes it difficult to spread out your books and papers
  • it’s nearly impossible to study when there’s live music

As you know, studying in coffee shops can work — it’s just not for everyone.

If you find a good coffee shop to study in, then do it because it’s a great place to study late and still stay caffeinated.
